WOODWAY, Texas, -- Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan announced today that she was a finalist for a Taco Bell Fiesta Burrito combo meal. Standing in line at the local Taco Bell, she said she expected to hear within minutes whether she would be awarded the coveted prize.
Sheehan was the third of four people waiting to have their orders taken at the Woodway, Texas, Taco Bell, where she told reporters that she was thrilled to be in such select company.
"I consider it an honor just to be here among these other deserving candidates," Sheehan said. "The guy in front of me works construction, and the woman in front of him is a local farmhand. I don't know what the first guy does, but I'm sure it's meaningful and socially important. If anyone is deserving of a piping-hot gordito or a steaming bowl of pintos and cheese, it's those three. I'm humbled just to be in their presence. "
Analysts said Sheehan's chances of being awarded the coveted combo meal are excellent, but depend to some degree on the competition, particularly the customer at the front of the line.
"She'll almost certainly get it," said Jim Carp, a local feed store owner who was enjoying a Chalupa Supreme, cinnamon twists and medium Pepsi on his lunch break. "Since they promoted Chris to day manager, this place has never run out of Fiesta Burritos at lunchtime. But there is the time factor to consider. The way that first customer is eyeballin' the menu and rubbin' his chin, I'd say he's in no hurry to make up his mind. We could be here a while."
Sheehan said that no matter how long it takes, she would stick around for the Fiesta Burrito, small side and medium soda. She said she drove 17 miles from Crawford, where she's been busy building her multi-hundred-dollar home, protest facility and recording studio, because Woodway had the nearest Taco Bell and she had been assured by an unnamed person that if she came, she would stand an excellent chance of being awarded the Fiesta Burrito.
"I don't mind waiting," she said. "If it means getting my Fiesta Burrito combo meal, I'll stay in Texas as long as it takes."
